In which we find ourselves in another part of the world

A lot of nice tail at the Green Mountains Aerobatic Competition.
Last weekend I posted something about discovering a band (Lake Street Dive, awesome) and then taking credit for their future success. Like the very next day, they were featured on NPR and I know it’s because of the power of my 22 followers. As proof, since that post I’m trending wildly: 23 followers and counting!
The real power of Tumblr and probably all social media is when a post goes out and makes the rounds among people who might not see it otherwise. Irish Dancers, I’m talking to you: thanks!

New highway bridge going up across the West River in Brattleboro
The new span will take the place of the two rusting bridges that used to be there, one of which remains and is currently handling traffic in both directions.
The project seems to be going exactly according to plan, but it does make a person think about scale… This bridge is estimated to cost more than $60 million. People in Brattleboro are really agonizing over a budget shortfall of less than half a million this year.

I think everybody stares in the real estate window while on vacation. I know I do.

After I finished my first novel…

Out, out, damn spot
In addition to the international fireworks competition, the world’s largest jazz festival, a circus in the streets happening, and who knows what else, this weekend Montreal was host to the North American Irish Dance Championships.
We might have liked to see one of their recitals, that sort of thing is very cool. However, all we actually saw was a bunch of preteen girls with too much makeup, big hair, sequins and incredibly brown legs. Really… even before we had any idea there was an Irish Dance competition in town, we had remarked on girls with overly brown legs.
When we checked out of the hotel, everything made sense.
