Christmas Day 2015

Started early, really early, delivering snacks to the overnight shift on Lee’s unit. We had a modest present opening morning and then headed over to the Providence household for a mid-afternoon meal.

We’ve spent several holidays with them since landing in town, and it’s always a nice time. We get the joys of puppies and toddlers, lots of home-cooked deliciousness, grandparents, and all the trimmings. And then we get to retreat to someplace quieter.

All that holiday whirl doesn’t just happen… We know that Sherry and Prov have worked very hard to create an atmosphere where everybody from brand new girlfriends to aunts and uncles to neighbors and people from work feel warm and welcome. Their attitude seems to be “here it all is, enjoy it or don’t.” Somehow that level of chill – no judgment, no expectations – has the exact effect of making everybody enjoy it even more.

On the drive home we detoured into Dummerston to check out some Christmas lights (it’s still fully dark before 5:00), and noticed in passing that the Chinese restaurant was completely packed… Did the Bumpuss hounds really get to that many turkeys?
