A thunderhead rearing up over our maple tree. We got a good shower and a little relief from the sweltering heat. It hasn’t actually been all that hot, not over 90, but awfully close and humid. Supposed to cool off over the next day or two.

With the Latchis marquee all lit up in the background, the newly reopened Brattleboro Cheese shop vented its frustration yesterday. We wish them well in their new space, which has hosted several failures since we arrived on the scene. Hopefully they can break the curse!

A quirky vehicle in Brattleboro yesterday. Just passing through…

We got our first garden produce, a bunch of cilantro, over the weekend.

And see the train in the background?

The White Stripes

Living as we do in a municipal parking lot gives us a new appreciation for all the guys whose workday starts very early. Of course, there’s the trash collection and snowplow set. But let’s not forget the food delivery crowd, the street sweeping contingent, and the many others who need to get done mostly before the rest of us would like to be awake.

In their honor, I offer you this picture of our beautiful new stripes, lovingly and oh so thoroughly sprayed at 4:00 AM from a machine that looks and sounds like an old Gravely

Now why would I need to go and buy a bigger car? I took that welding class that one time, and here’s some leftover roofing cement…

Reservations not required

With some reservations, I made reservations to see Ghostmaker, a more-produced version of Genna Nethercott’s senior project in theater arts. It was billed as combining poetry, puppetry, music, etc. Perhaps just one too many forms of expression mashed together for my comfort.

Our theatrical experiences have been mixed around here, with the genuinely talented all mingled in with the painfully earnest and even the out-and-out bad.

But Genna and her team pulled it off… the show was entertaining, had some genuinely funny bits, a good plot line, didn’t drone on too long: well worth it, and well done.

In the end, she didn’t fill the house, possibly thanks to the pouring rain, so those reservations weren’t really needed. But i’m very glad to say that my mental reservations weren’t needed either.

In Brattleboro, it’s perfectly okay to fix your Prius with duct tape.

As long as it’s green duct tape.
