And-a the horse-a you rode in on

In Te Reo, the Māori language, most everything is pronounced in a way that is pretty consistent to how it’s written and pretty easy for English speakers to sound out. One exception is the “wh”, which is pronounced as an “f” more or less.

I hope you can read the plaque, but just in case, “On this site in 1992 nothing happened”

It’s a mystery

The Area 51 meme is global, apparently. I didn’t actually go in this store, but I expect the only unexplained event would be why anyone would pay the prices they’re asking…

We appreciate usiness.

I like this one especially. Usually when I get these sign pictures, they’re here because something broke or changed or because of a juxtaposition or translation problem. But in this case it appears there was never any attempt to spell it all out. The “your b” I expected to see was simply deemed surplus, like the EPA or ethics rules.

The Brattleboro Reformer sponsors a periodic contest for young writers, with a prompt in words or pictures. So here’s such a prompt from our morning walk the other day.

A welcome sight

Driving along the road in Vermont, one of the last things you expect to see is  a sign that reads “tacos.”

Now, this is southern Vermont, so I suppose Sarah Palin could see Mexico from here… but still.

We stopped, and learned that this is the distribution center for the former Tito’s Tacos. It’s “the former” because of a trademark dustup with a Tito’s Tacos in the Los Angeles area… It doesn’t seem like there is much room to confuse the two, but I suppose one has to protect one’s brand.

Now, Vermont Tito is selling tacos for breakfast and burritos for lunch out of a little corner grocery that we had never actually been in before. It’s a cute little store, the tacos were delicious, and we’ll be back. Good Mexican food is definitely something we miss around here, so this will be a welcome treat.
