Yesterday, we bought a copy of a local history book full of photos. That led us in a couple of graveyard-related directions….

1) my theory of the first white person born in Vermont is now contradicted… More on that when I figure out what’s what

2) this lovely monument to Col. James Fisk, sculpted by Larkin Mead, who was reasonably famous in his day, and completed a bunch of sculptures one might have seen: The topper on the VT statehouse, a bunch of statuary at Lincoln’s tomb in Springfield, IL, and Ethan Allen in the US Capitol. Mead’s first work to really draw attention was a big angel made of snow and ice, erected just down the street from where I am sitting… so all you sand castle artists keep on trying!!!!
