All Souls Day

I celebrated the faithful departed today with a lunchtime walk through Hartford’s Ancient Burying Ground, which lies just across the street from the office. It has a wonderful collection of headstones dating from the late 17th to early 19th centuries. If you believe in that sort of thing, extra prayers today will speed the souls on their way out of Purgatory and toward their beatific rest in Heaven. And if you don’t, it’s a great few minutes of fall in a peaceful oasis away from downtown Hartford’s mix of sirens and construction noise and big empty diesel buses.
