Yesterday’s bike ride was advertised as “about” 55 miles, which turned out to be 80. 55 would’ve been my longest ride of the year… 80 was a lot. Luckily, the weather held, the group was congenial, and I wasn’t expected anywhere until later in the evening. We rode to Shelburne Falls and stopped for coffee and to see the Bridge of Flowers, which I’ve mentioned here before. This weekend the dahlias are the main attraction. But the colors everywhere are great, and this Columbus Day weekend brings all the leaf-peepers. We’re certainly glad for them to come spend a few days and more than a few dollars. On the crowded roads yesterday we had no trouble with tourists, although a few local cars had to pass us aggressively just to let us know a few things.
