The Nantucket Whaling Museum

The museum itself was fabulous. The self-congratulatory video paean to the donors, which was produced by Ken Burns’ brother Rick and packaged as a history of the island, was overlong and underpaced.

Skeleton of a whale that washed up on Nantucket a few years ago (and if you don’t believe in evolution then explain why whales have fingers)

Scrimshaw

The Folger Clock. The clock does time and declination of the sun AND high tide at Sconset. Still running. Folger, a self-taught tinkerer, had a relative who went out west and decided to try and sell coffee to gold miners… Good to the last drop.
