Just over twenty-five years ago, we were faced with a bureaucratic decision to deny Lee various benefits in the event that my joining the army turned into a situation that required government benefits. Happily it didn’t.
Still and all, twenty-five years ago yesterday we were able to solve the problem with a blood test and a quick ceremony in the courtyard of the Unitarian Church in Albuquerque, and so we had a “machine-gun wedding.” Today, even more people have the option to get married, whether looking down the barrel of a gun or not.
Joining the army turned out not to be the right decision for me, at least not the kind of decision I wanted to stick with. But getting married was, and still is.
Thank you for twenty-five amazing years together and here’s hoping for twenty-five more!
