A few weeks ago I learned about an Internet business called Decluttr. They buy your old CDs and DVDs, and resell them in various markets. The first time I tried it I had a box of maybe 30 discs left behind by a tenant. I got almost $20… Cool enough to try again. The nice thing is that they guarantee they will buy any disc you send in for at least 50¢. Decluttr scrapes data off Amazon and EBay to figure out market price, so if your disc is rare or in demand they give you more.
So, today being the big kickoff weekend for tag sales in this part of the world, I went shopping. I ended up with approximately 120 discs, at a cost of about $52, in other words slightly above break even if they were all worth the minimum. Luckily, several of my finds were worth a bit more, so I ended up making an extra 20 bucks… Very fun. I made as much in a day as I did in a year of book buying back in SLC. And since Decluttr handles all the shipping, much easier!
The things you’ve heard of or think are good are mostly worth only the minimum. My two most valuable finds so far have been instructional videos, one on learning the ukulele and the other on celestial navigation. Go figure.
