On this august occasion
Today we visited the Musée Augustin, a former convent that was dereligified during the French Revolution. We got the guided tour (in French), which was interesting enough if you understood it. And if you enjoy that sort of thing. And if you’re not on your third day of unaccustomed amounts of time standing. I did like the part about how Napoleon’s armies ‘retrieved’ a significant number of the works we saw… At cannon-point.
The bronze guy with the chicken is an inside joke: we think it’s a prelude to a sculpture inside the Arc de Triomphe that we saw years ago, some Revolutionary with probably an eagle wreath. In the days before Tumblr I took a picture of that one which we blew up and titled Get This Chicken Off my Head.
